Two senior Liberal cabinet ministers will explain the government's settlement with former GuantanamoBay prisoner Omar KhadronFriday.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould will speak to reporters in Ottawa starting at 11:45 a.m. ET. CBC News will carry their news conference live.

The government has already issued a $10.5-million cheque to the man who has been branded aterrorist by some, and a child soldier subjected to torture by others. Khadr received the money Wednesday, sources told CBC News.

The settlement is similar to what was paid toMaher Arar in 2007for Canada's role in a U.S. decision to deport him to Syria, where hewas jailed and tortured.

The quiet money transfer came before a Toronto-basedlawyer could file an injunction in an Ontario court to try to stop paymentpending the settlement of alawsuit launched by the family of the U.S. soldier Khadr is alleged to have killed in Afghanistan.
